2021 Advent Devotional

2021 Advent Devotional

Bread is a key theme for this year’s online devotional, which will continue beyond the four weeks of Advent through the 12 Days of Christmas and end on Epiphany, Jan. 6.

This devotional invites you to be part of building a tighter-knit community right where you are. Share the devotional with friends and family. Read and reflect together as a small group meeting over Zoom or in person. You are also encouraged to bake bread and share the loaves as gifts with others. Each Friday in Advent, a bread recipe will be offered. Make more than one loaf so that you can share one and keep the other to be part of your Sunday Advent practice of having a simple meal as you light the candles around the Advent Wreath. The devotional can be found on the web at https://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/today/advent2021 or by clicking HERE.

DONATE

MSPC is participating for the first time in Give Miami Day on Thursday, November 18th. This special online giving event is sponsored by the Miami Foundation, which is celebrating 10 years of supporting Miami-Dade non-profit organizations. Donations on this day are in addition to our yearly Pledge Campaign and other fundraisers at MSPC.

For Give Miami Day, we hope to raise $5,000 that will support our mission partners, worship services, Christian education, and our church infrastructure. The minimum donation to participate on this special day is $25. We are asking everyone to join us by participating in Give Miami Day.

There are several ways you can donate on November 18.

    1. Click the Give Miami Day donate button above.
    2. Click on thISlink: https://www.givemiamiday.org/MSPC
    3. Create a peer-to-peer (Champions page) and share it with your family and friends and ask them to join you in donating to MSPC. To learn how to create a Champions page, please contact Marta Lavandier at MLavandier2000@yahoo.com.

This event will help highlight our mission and ministry to the world around us and is another way for us to share the church we love with the people we love. We hope you will join us on Give Miami Day to support our church community. Don’t forget, our 24-hour day of giving will kick off at midnight on Thursday, November 18. Thank you!

Anti-Racism Book Club

Anti-Racism Book Club

This class, facilitated by Rev. Diane Shoaf, will begin after Labor Day and end before Thanksgiving. Participants will use a process based on listening to one’s heart while reading and a listening circle for processing what we’ve read as a group.  The club will meet on Saturdays 9:00-10:30 am. Our selection is Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson.  Email Diane Shoaf at: shoaf456@bellsouth.net to register and to receive the class link.

In Defense of Kindness: A Church-Wide Book Study

In Defense of Kindness: A Church-Wide Book Study

Are you ready to read and share thoughts and feelings and learn to be a better Christian all at the same time? Starting over the two-week period of September 19th to October 2nd, we will begin our small group sessions on the book of kindness! These groups will meet two times a month, for approximately one hour, to cover one chapter in the book and build relationships with each other. You can pick which day of the week and time will work for you, we tried to set up a variety. Choice of groups are as follows:

  •          Sunday morning 9 AM
  •          Sunday Noon after church
  •          Tuesday morning 10:00 AM
  •          Wednesday morning 7:30 AM will remain on zoom
  •          Wednesday noon (bring your own lunch)
  •          Wednesday evening 7:00 PM

The meetings will be held on Zoom if COVID Act Now for Miami-Dade County is still magenta, but when it becomes red, or better, the MSPC campus will open up if the group wants to gather at the church, stay on zoom, or wherever the group decides to meet. We hope these groups will encourage building relationships, having some fun, and learning new ways of kindness to show our love in Christ.

There will be a link to sign up electronically from MSPC.net https://tinyurl.com/tu4s33b8

You can also email Marcia Cannata at mcanna1870@aol.com or text or call to 305 733-5844. Leave a message if no answer for a callback.

Service of Healing Saturday, June 12 @ 5 pm

On Saturday, June 12, at 5 pm, there will be a Service of Healing in the Sanctuary.

The Service of Healing will provide a space to pause, remember, and honor family, friends, and neighbors that were lost to COVID in these last 14 months. The service will include music, Scripture, silent meditation, and an opportunity to light candles for those we would like to remember.

Christian or not, all are welcome. Join us!
